Vacation Home Plan, Cabin Plan, Craftsman House Plan, Cedar View 50-012

The Cedar View is a charming and delightfully unusual Craftsman-style vacation cabin. To begin with, you can't help but notice the intriguing interplay of textures and shapes.

Shake shingles contrast with smooth upright posts, decorative corbels, and a stone veneer chimney. Satiny half-round windows nestle under triangular gables on three sides.

Two sets of French doors open onto a covered porch and deck that face the street and wrap around to  most of the left side. Another four French doors accesses this side as well, for a total of eight French doors!

All eight French doors open into the bright, open two-story great room, washing this space in natural light. And more light spills down through the two large half-rounds high on the walls. A masonry fireplace adds color and warmth when needed.

This space is open to the kitchen, where a raised and curved eating bar and a lower ceiling mark the boundary. It's a long galley kitchen with a built-in desk in the nook. Standing at the kitchen sink, you look into the great room.

Laundry appliances are close at hand, hidden behind pocket doors. Just inside the back door, an entry bench fits into an alcove. Boot storage is below with coat hooks above. A coat closet is located under the stairway leading to the loft and upper bathroom.

Two bedrooms, or a studio and a bedroom, are on the main level. The larger room is vaulted and has a pass-through closet that leads to the bathroom.

This plan is well-suited for use as a vacation retreat, or a year round home for a single person or small family.

Country House Plan, Home Plan, Ranch House Plan, Featured Design of the Week, Cortland 10-195

Lots of outdoor living space is one of the most notable features of the country-style ranch Cortland house design.

An amazing long stretch of covered porch and deck wraps around the home. Beginning at the front steps, it flows around the right side, across the back, and links to the owners’ suite. Along the way, double doors in the family room and dining room offer access. Skylights provide the rear deck with sunlight.

Stepping into the vaulted entry, you find yourself in a naturally lit space that is open to three interconnected living areas. Soft light spills in through sidelights, while brighter light washes down from the dormer overhead.

Nearly encircling the living room, a wide octagonal window bay creates a bright and cheerful environment for entertainment or relaxation. This spacious living area flows comfortably into the dining room, where double doors open onto the covered porch.

A vaulted ceiling helps distinguish the line between the family room and the flat-ceilinged dining area. French doors and a skylight brighten the whole area. A home entertainment center is in the back corner, next to an energy-efficient woodstove.

The kitchen is large, and also very bright. Bay windows create an expansive nook, while a smaller bay serves as a backdrop for a gently curved, J-shaped buffet. Standing at the kitchen sink, you look into the great room across an eating bar.

Bedrooms and utilities fill the left side of the home. The pass-through utility room is outfitted with cabinets, a deep sink, folding counter, sewing area, and storage closet.

Owners’ suite features in the Cortland include: a spa tub, walk-in shower, dual vanity, large walk-in closet, and private toilet.

Country House Plan, Home Plan, New House Plan, Acadia 30-961

It won’t take long to feel completely comfortable in the Acadia. Craftsman accents and an inviting array of front-facing gables welcome family and friends into this updated country style home.

Vaulted ceilings elevate the sense of volume in this medium-sized plan. The vaulting starts in the entry and goes back into the living and dining room area. Light spills into the large gathering space through windows that flank the fireplace, along with the wide sliding glass doors that offers access to the covered patio. The patio could be easily screened, if bugs are a problem, or create more living space.

The eating bar that rims the kitchen/dining counter can also double as a convenient buffet for gatherings. Counters and cabinetry wrap around the other three sides of the kitchen, and a roomy pantry fills one entire corner.

A well-appointed owners’ suite is the only main-level bedroom. It offers his and hers walk in closets, one larger than the other. Both have built-in shelves. In the owners’ bathroom, natural light washes in through a wide window over the luxurious bathtub. Other amenities include a dual vanity, linen closet, and separately enclosed toilet and shower.

Double doors on the right of the entry hall open into a home office or den that is also vaulted. An exterior door could be added, from the porch into this area, if desired for keeping business traffic separate from the rest of the home.

A passageway on the opposite side of the entry hall leads past a powder room and a utility room before linking with the 2-car garage.

Two additional bedrooms, a bathroom, and a bonus room are upstairs in the Acadia. Bonus room ceilings slope down at the sides.

The Palmary is a colonial-style house plan with traditional detailing. Its symmetrical central section has all of the right touches, from the curved and columned entry porch, to shuttered multipaned windows and attic dormers.

Inside, the layout is actually a relaxed mixture of classic style and modern amenities, starting with the stylish curved stairway that sweeps up the left-side of the lofty two-story foyer. Move past it to step-through an arch into a bright livingroom withe a wide masonry hearth.

Columns flank another arched opening leading to an elegant dining room with a stepped ceiling and applied molding detailing. Double doors on the foyer's opposite side open in to a den which connects to the owners' suite. This room might function as a home-office, computer room, or study.

Family room, kitchen and nook flow together in a bright and spacious casual living space. Craftsman House Plan, Home Plan, Carlton 30-896

Craftsman-style tapered posts give a nostalgic look to this otherwise modern cottage. These posts support the Carlton’s covered porch, which spans the front and wraps around the right. A sparkling line of multipaned windows runs across the top of the garage door.

Other Craftsman touches include stone veneer column supports and decorative gable accents, plus multipaned window uppers on three sides of the home.

Inside, the foyer segues into a hallway that cuts right down the center, splitting your house into two sides. Bedrooms and bathrooms comprise the right wing. A comfortably spacious family living area fills out the left side, behind the utility room and two-car garage up front.

Family members parking in the garage may enter the kitchen/gathering place via the utility room. People parking around the street will enter through the foyer. Its extended passageway runs by two-bedroom hallways on the right, along with coat and storage closets on the left.

Then it widens out to the central living area where natural light washes in through windows filling most of the rear wall. A gas fireplace nestles to the right rear corner, while sliding glass doors offer comfortable access to your partially covered patio on the left.

An raised eating bar rims the counter that bounds the C-shaped kitchen. Standing at the kitchen sink, you'll be able to gaze to the side and rear yards, but still scope out the gathering space by simply turning your head.

Amenities in the Carlton’s owners’ suite include a spacious walkin closet and a two-section bathroom having a dual vanity and a large shower. One linen closet is tucked in to the hall to the suite. An similar linen closet is in the hallway to the secondary bedrooms and main bathroom.

Chateau House Plan, Home Plan, Fitzgerald 30-492

The exciting Fitzgerald has plenty to catch one's attention. Four gables face the front, wooden shutters emphasize most of the windows, and copper sheathing overscores the garagedoor and two upper windows. Three arched windows echo arched openings on the porch’s top edge.

In some respects, this Chateau style house plan bows to tradition. The majority of the bedrooms are upstairs, and gathering spaces are well defined. The parlor (or dining area) and living room are separated, and the kitchen is linked, yet slightly removed.

But other parts are entirely contemporary. The foyer and living room, for instance, are two stories high, and there’s a gas fire. Abundant light spills in through transom windows that crown French windows while in the parlor and foyer. The kitchen and owners’ suite are also well-designed to meet the needs of busy families.

A bayed nook expands the large kitchen, which centers around a large work island. One of the nook’s windows is actually a French door, which opens onto the rear patio. If desired, this place could possibly be roofed and screened in for insect-free outdoor dining. All appliances are built in, and a desk with shelves nestles into an alcove close to the oven and microwave.

An arched opening leads to a spacious pantry, powder room and garage, while a door in the nook gives access to a windowed utility room.

The Fitzgerald’s owners’ suite fills the entire right side. It features a large walkin closet, soaking bathtub, oversize shower, private bathroom, and twin lavs. Light beams down onto the closet’s secluded window seat through a high window.

Two more bedrooms, a distinctive, skylit three-section bathroom, plus a bonus room are upstairs.

Cottage House Plan, Home Plan, Ranch House Plan, Callaway 30-641

The Callaway is actually a modern cottage with a country-Victorian flavor. The wooden posts and rails on its large front deck provide it that country-cottage look, while the interesting curved window and scallop-shingled gable fronts include dashes of sentimental Victorian flavor.

Families will definitely recognize the multiplicity of amenities that the designer managed to fit into  somewhat less than 1400 square feet of living space.

Family gathering spaces complete the left side; private rooms are on the right. The vaulted living room has one wide window in the front, and two thin windows on the side. The ceiling height drops and flattens toward the rear, where the living room transitiions into the dining area.

Light spills into this bright space through windows at the side and a pair of sliding glass doors at the rear that open onto a partially covered patio. Counters in the C-shaped kitchen are extended by a peninsula with a flush eating bar that bounds the dining room. Standing in the kitchen sink, it is easy to watch activities in the back-yard and around the patio.

A hall just around the corner from the Callaway's kitchen leads to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and a pass-through utility room that links with the garage. Broom, linen, and coat closets line the hallway, and a bank of cabinets fills the wall over the washer and dryer.

The owners' suite includes a vaulted ceiling that slopes down to the left and right, a private bathroom with a double vanity, along with a walk in closet that's surprisingly large for a house this size. Secondary rooms share the main toilet, which has a combination tub and shower.
