Wyndmere features informal open spaces

Its wide front porch and wealth of street-facing windows give a look of friendliness to the Wyndmere, a three bedroom, four-bath home with a large patio. In keeping with a nationwide trend, this plan has no formal living room. The freed-up space is devoted to informal living areas, such as the spacious great room at its core.

The great room is bright and totally open. Light spills in through windows that fill most of the front and back walls. The French doors that flank the fireplace at the rear provide plenty of airflow, as well as direct access to the patio. Natural light, somewhat softened by the covered front porch, washes into the dining room through nostalgic multipaned windows reminiscent of a Cape Cod style houseplan.

Contemporary amenities are plentiful in the large kitchen, another bright space. The nook is windowed on two sides, and a garden window is in front of the sink. Counter and storage space is augmented by a central work island, a roomy walk-in pantry, and a counter extension that could serve as an eating bar. Utilities are tucked into a pass-through space with patio access, and a small powder room is just across the great room.

Luxuries in the Wyndmere's master suite include a big walk-in closet and a private bathroom with twin vanities, spa tub, oversized shower and separately enclosed water closet. This plan is unique in that every bedroom has its own bathroom. Each of the upstairs bedrooms also has a deep dormer.

A detached garage with space for a small office is out of sight behind the house.
