Craftsman House Plans

The Arts & Crafts movement began in the late 19th century and popularized by Gustav Stickley in his magazine, The Craftsman. The movement which also includes Prairie style and Bungalow designs spun into the Craftsman style home plan and remains extremely popular today. The Craftsman house plan is an excellent choice for homeowners who prefer efficient and highly livable floor plans with abundant natural details.

Low-pitched roof lines, gabled or hipped roof are distinctive of a Craftsman bungalow design. Roofs are often supported by exposed rafters and stone piers.

An area for the family to gather and relax, the wide front porch is a popular feature found in a Craftsman house plan. The porch is often shaded by an extension of deep overhanging eaves that protect the home from rain or heavy sunlight. The front roof is supported by tapered or paired square columns.

Use of natural materials such as wood, brick and stone are common finishes found on both the interior and exterior of the home.
