Economical Hampton great for young families

One of the Hampton's chief claims to uniqueness lies in its orientation on the lot. Slightly wider than it is deep, this plan is designed to fit on a wide but shallow lot, with side yards used for outdoor living. Small and therefore economical to build, this home suits the needs of empty nesters as well as young families, buying for the first time.

Despite its small size, the Hampton doesn't feel cramped. Vaulted ceilings in the living room, dining room and master suite create a sense of expansiveness.

The living room has a fireplace with built in shelves next to it, convenient for displaying art objects or family memorabilia. Double French doors in the living room open onto a small side deck which could easily be built larger if desired.

The kitchen sink is tucked into a bay window that overlooks the street, allowing parents to keep a watchful eye on the neighborhood while immersed in food preparation or clean up tasks. The wall at the far end of the kitchen could be converted to an eating bar, if the owners prefer a more open floorplan.

His and hers basins add a touch of luxury to the master suite. A pocket door allows the toilet and shower to be closed for privacy and keeps shower steam from fogging mirrors.

The two car garage is deep enough to allow construction of an optional utility room at the back. Also optional, the Hampton's front bedroom can be built as a study or home office, with a French door instead of a conventional door.
