Berkley's functional for large family

Most homes as large as the Berkley are much fancier, and therefore, more expensive to build. Designed to meet the space needs of a large family, the five bedroom Berkley packs more than 3,300 square feet of floor space into an economical home. If desired, this plan can be built over a basement.

Only the master suite is on the ground floor. The other four bedrooms are upstairs, along with linen storage, a bathroom with double vanities, and a large bonus room with a dormer. The tub and toilet upstairs are tucked into another dormer, creating a bright bathing area.

A huge family living area dominates the main level, with a see through fireplace separating the more formal living room from the informal family room/kitchen. The dining room, while adjacent to the kitchen, is off by itself. A den, or office, is also fully enclosed.

Everyday meals are eaten in a sunny nook, which is brightened by a bay window. The kitchen has a large work island and is spacious enough to handle all the cooks jostling for counter space. A step in pantry provides ample food storage. The utility alcove, so close to the kitchen that it's almost in it, has a laundry chute that feeds in from the linen closet upstairs.

Touches of luxury are found in the master suite, which features a huge walk in closet, separately enclosed toilet and shower, double vanities and a spa tub.

The entry foyer in the Berkley is open to the second floor and has a closet and powder room. A workbench is at the back of the three car garage.
