Great room at heart of modern home
Twelve foot ceilings in the central living area add to the sense of airy openness in the St. Augustine. This single-level Mediterranean-style home could be adapted for wheelchair accessibility.
Brick and stucco combine with a hipped roof and arched multipaned windows to create a visually interesting exterior. Sidelights flank the entry, and the dining room's front wall is richly glassed.
Inside, the impression is one of spaciousness. No barriers break up the entry, dining room, great room and nook; and the kitchen is also partially open to this bright area. Standing at the kitchen sink, you can gaze into the nook, great room, screened porch and beyond. A section of kitchen wall provides some separation, allowing cooks to keep clutter out of sight if desired.
A step-in pantry adds to the already generous cupboard space, while utilities are mere steps away. Connected to the two-car garage, the large utility room comes equipped with a closet, utility tub and a long counter for folding clothes.
Double doors in the window-bright great room and nook open on an exceptionally large screened porch and patio -- a clear invitation to outdoor dining. On chilly days, the fireplace on the opposite side of the room offers a welcome antidote of warmth and colorful flames.
The St. Augustine's master suite walk-in closet is huge. In the bathroom, glass blocks separate the spa tub and oversized shower. Other amenities include twin basins, linen closet and private toilet. Two of the secondary bedrooms have direct access to a two-section bath. A fourth bedroom, close to yet another bathroom, could be furnished as an office or guest room.
