Contemporary vacation retreat has lots of character
The Wickiup is a midsize contemporary log home, designed as a vacation retreat. Nonetheless, it has all the standard amenities needed for comfortable year-round living. Log homes are renowned for their insulating qualities and low maintenance needs.
Its exterior is an intriguingly fresh mix of rustic and contemporary features, combining natural logs and a rock-faced fireplace with a wealth of thermal windows, variously sized and shaped.
Rimmed by slender log posts, a wide deck spans the entire right side. This fully enclosed outdoor living area, accessible from only the owners' suite and living room, could be used to keep a toddler or dog contained, as well as for sun-bathing and outdoor dining.
Kitchen and living room run together in one comfortably large, free-flowing space with a vaulted ceiling that slopes up to a lofty two stories in height. A raised eating bar marks the boundary between the kitchen and an area that could be furnished with a large dining table, if desired.
Standing at the cook top, you can ladle soups and stews directly into bowls at the eating bar. The sink offers vistas in two directions, and potted plants thrive in its moist, sunny triangular front space. A pantry, powder room, and full utility room with deep sink are mere steps away.
Luxury touches in the Wickiup's owners' suite include: a separately enclosed water closet and shower, a spa tub with a garden window, and twin closets lining the passageway that connects the bathroom and the large sleeping/sitting area.
The spacious loft that overlooks the living room is linked to another small bathroom and storage space via a closet-lined hallway.
