Gilcrest gracious, spacious

There's a lot to notice about the Gilcrest's front facade.

Four gables, varying in size, draw eyes upward. Raised brick trim crowns the soaring arched entry, echoing the gently curved arch of the stacked, multipaned windows. Foliage and blooms spill over the edges of raised brick planters on both sides of the arch.

More panes of glass overarch the door, and sparkling sidelights flank it, adding to the exterior visual appeal, while naturally illuminating the vaulted entry.

Vaulted ceilings expand the sense of volume in gathering spaces that fill the left side, front to back. Double doors open into a living room that can become completely private by closing them. Square posts mark the passageways into the dining room from the entry and family room.

The family room is large, bright, and completely open to the kitchen. Cabinets, with windows above, fill the walls on both sides of the gas fireplace. These are designed to house a television and entertainment center.

More light washes in through two sets of wide windows at the rear. One set, the nook's atrium doors, swing open to provide patio access.

A raised eating bar marks the boundary between nook and kitchen. This work island has a built-in cooktop, and on one side, a stack of bookshelves. Other kitchen features include: a telephone desk, a wide pantry, and built-in appliances. Utilities are nearby, hidden behind pocket doors across from the powder room, in the passageway to the garage.

The Gilcrest's master suite has a two-section bathroom and a huge walk-in closet with a pull-down ironing board. The upper bedrooms share a skylit bathroom, and each has its own roomy walk-in closet.
