Esterville a pleasing blend of old & new

The Esterville is a transitional home, its exterior a judicious blend of traditional and contemporary. The overall shape is that of an up-to-date country cottage, with each of three front-facing gables set at a different level. Tapered keystones center on the arched lintels that crown several of the multipaned windows. The covered porch is framed by a wooden handrail and a handsome column with raised trim.

Inside, the floor plan is comfortably contemporary. A rambling array of interconnected gathering spaces fills two-thirds of the ground floor, while a well-appointed owners' suite claims most of the remainder. Two bedrooms, a bathroom and a bonus room are upstairs.

Columns on the left of the two-story entry flank the dining rooms arched opening. A narrower passageway on the right leads to the owners suite. Straight ahead, past a flight of stairs and a gallery of high display shelves, is the bright and spacious vaulted great room.

Windows fill most of the rear wall. A gas fireplace and roomy home entertainment center are on one side, while across the room an open counter with cabinets above faces into the kitchen. Family and friends will enjoy planting themselves on stools along this eating bar, or spending time in the sunny bayed nook. Sliding glass doors in the nook open onto a wide patio.

Other noteworthy kitchen features include a large cook-top work island with overhead skylight, built-in appliances, a built-in desk with overhead shelves, and a deep walk-in pantry.

The Esterville's owners' suite has an exceptionally large walk-in closet and a luxurious two-section bathroom with a spa tub and double vanity. Direct access to a partially covered private patio makes it easy to add a hot tub.
