Often, functioning as the living room of a home, a great room is typically looked out into from a second story, if the design includes one. The great rooms in these designs commonly look out onto a vaulted covered porch or a deck. Back decks are often accessed from the master’s suite.
 
Most plans also feature nooks, or sitting areas adjacent to great rooms. These areas can be used as reading areas or nooks. Some master bedrooms or owners’ suites in these designs alternatively feature nooks or sitting areas there as well.
