An advantage to this arrangement is that the kids can play and sleep without being disturbed by the parents who can host parties or watch television downstairs. Children also cannot sneak downstairs for a late night snack or outside to play without the parents knowing. Once the kids grow up and move out of the house, the bedrooms can be turned into spare guest rooms, sitting rooms or craft rooms. Elderly people do not have to navigate the stairs to reach their master bedroom if they have mobility issues.
Many Cape Cod house plans allow for an attached garage or small carport to be incorporated into the design. The design also allows for modest porches and upper decks to be attached to have a comfortable place to sit during the warm spring and summer. You can sit outdoors reading a book or listening to music as the children play out in the front yard.
