Brazos makes striking first impression
Light streams into the Brazos' dramatic, sunken living room from both front and back, creating a striking first impression as you step into the lofty tiled entry. Guest designer Daniel Plaster, of Eugene, Ore., created this Texas inspired home for families that like to entertain.
The living room's vaulted ceiling slants up from a 17-foot-high window wall at the rear, to clerestory windows that face the street. The rear-facing windows allow appreciation of a vista and you can get an even closer look by walking through atrium doors onto a wide deck. A grand fireplace, built with the same native fieldstone as the exterior, dominates the wall opposite the doors.
Amenities in the fully equipped kitchen include a work island with range, generous cupboard and counter space, and built-in ovens and dishwasher. Dining room and nook are richly glassed. Utilities, a pull-down ironing board and a deep sink, are just steps away. The utility room is directly accessible from the garage.
The huge master bedroom shares in the rear vista. Other luxuries here include a his-'n-hers walk-in closet and a private bathroom with twin vanities and enclosed toilet. The two-person shower is open at the back, allowing ease of movement to and from the luxurious garden spa.
Upstairs in the Brazos, a skylit library/loft with built-in shelves overlooks the living room. Bedrooms two and three have walk-in closets and share a bathroom. Additional attic storage is accessible through bedroom three.
