Holbrook has vintage look, modern layout
Distinctive tapered wooden columns rimming the Holbrook's small front porch hark back to an era when porch swings were the norm. Indeed, the left corner of this porch is ideal for just such a swing.
This modestly sized home is well-suited to the needs of singles who want space for an office plus guests; empty nesters, looking to downsize without feeling cramped; and families with young children.
There's nothing nostalgic about the interior. Living room and dining room flow together creating a spacious living area, open to the kitchen. The boundary between dining and living areas is marked by columns, which could be joined by an arch if desired.
A fireplace nestles into the rear corner. Whether used for burning wood, or outfitted with gas logs, it offers warmth, color and a focal point for conviviality when days grow dreary and nights are long. Sliders open onto a partially covered patio for warm weather use.
Standing at the kitchen sink, you can watch the changing seasons and/or keep an eye on children playing out front. Potted plants flourish in the bright window bay. Counter space wraps around four sides, and cupboard space is also generous, boosted by a large step-in pantry. Sink, stove and refrigerator are laid out in a tight, step-saving triangle.
Bedrooms and utilities cluster together on the right. Amenities in the master suite include a large walk-in closet, and a two-section bathroom with double vanity. Water closet and shower can be closed off for steam containment and added privacy.
The utility room connects to the Holbrook's garage and comes outfitted with a folding counter, deep sink and roomy storage cabinets.
