Arched windows, stucco detailing and a tile roof give a Spanish flavor to the Villa Real, a compact contemporary-style family home that looks larger than its modest 1,967 square feet.
In this fairly traditional plan, all of the bedrooms are upstairs. Downstairs the dining room and living room are on the left. Kitchen and entry are in the middle, and the informal gathering spaces -- family room and screened porch -- are on the right. This home is so richly glassed that it's nearly impossible to find a dark corner. And none of the rooms are small.
Light streaming in through the largest arched window provides natural illumination in the vaulted living room. Tall, slender rectangles of glass flank the dramatic arch. The resulting expanse of glass fills most of the living room's front wall.
The entry has a lofty two-story-high ceiling. Sunlight beams down from a small round window. Three smaller arched windows, set in a 3-sided, bathe the stairway in light.
The breakfast nook fills a larger bay that expands a spacious country kitchen. It is open to a huge family room where sliders access a wide screened porch. Utilities and a small powder room are on the opposite side, adjacent to the garage.
A landing at the top of the naturally bright stairway overlooks the entry. Soiled laundry dropped in a chute next to the stairs slides into the laundry room below. A roomy linen closet provides ample storage.
Luxuries in the Villa Real's master suite include a double vanity and a large walk-in closet. Two secondary bedrooms share the third bathroom.
