Compact Malibu packed with amenities
The Malibu is unusually small for a two-story house. Nonetheless, our designers have managed to pack it with a surprising assortment of popular amenities.
This plan is exceptionally well-suited to the needs of a retired couple in search of a low-maintenance home. The upper level, outfitted with two identical bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small linen closet, stands ready to accommodate grandchildren and other guests. But when the owners are home alone, they can forget this area. Everything needed for daily living is on the main floor.
All of the rooms are bright, even the stairway. Light from an arched window, nestled under a high dormer, illuminates the stairs and spills over into the entry. A coat closet is directly in front of the entry, a storage closet is tucked under the stairs, and a tiny powder room is to the left.
The boxed-out bay that brightens and expands the living room makes an ideal location for a window seat. Sliders in both the dining room and master suite fill these rooms with light while providing access to a long screened patio.
Windows in front of the kitchen sink look through the screened patio, and out into the back yard. Amenities in the kitchen include an eating bar, and built-in appliances. Cooks will also appreciate having counter space on both sides of the range and oven. Utilities are nearby but out of sight.
The master suite in the Malibu has a deep walk-in closet and a small private bathroom.
