Contemporary House Plan - Ravendale 10-523 - Daylight Basement Floor Plan
Ranch-style Trio of Linked Hexagonal Units
From the exterior, the Ravendale has the appearance of a rambling Wyoming-eque ranch-style home. But a quick glance at the floor plan reveals that it's actually three linked hexagons, two of them with daylight basements below. This plan is designed for construction on a hill that slopes down at the rear.
To enter, you step through French doors into a sky-lit, vaulted entry opposite another set of French doors that open onto the raised deck spanning the rear. This combination of doors and skylights creates an exceptionally bright space.
One large gathering space dominates the hexagon to the right. The ceiling there is vaulted, with each of the six pie-shaped segments rising to a central apex. The living room area has a gas fireplace, and its French doors provide another deck access. The dining area fills the other side of the room, while the kitchen juts out slightly between, offering a minimal sense of separation.
The long eating bar that bounds the kitchen and dining area has a counter on the other side of it, along with cabinets above and below. No area of the kitchen is cut off from interactions with the great room. Standing at the kitchen sink, you can also gaze across the deck to the landscape beyond.
Powder and utility rooms link the rest of the home to the third hexagon, an extra-roomy two-car garage.
Sleeping areas fill the Ravendale's left hexagon. The bright and spacious owners' suite has two large custom walk-ins: a closet and a shower. Another bathroom is next to the other bedroom.
Downstairs, a recreation room complete with fireplace and mini-kitchen fills one unit, and an exercise room, bedroom and bathroom fit neatly into the other.
